The question that begs to be asked here is what should have been done that
would have avoided the current situation.
Care to fill us in, anyone, anyone .... anyone

Probably nothing could have been done, but with the benefit of hindsight, maybe
we would have left Saddam in power a little longer, put everything into
Afghanistan and put more military pressure on Iran.
I am not saying that would have worked, it is just something that could have
been done differently.

Well we know what doesn't work. Avoiding them for 8yrs and refusing to get them
to the talking table and then refering to them as "The Axis of Evil"
and then propaganding your either with us or against us put Iran into full
Nuclear Production.

One sure fire way to make the middle east happy is to destroy the economy and
bankrupt the US.
The only way to stop Iran from gaining nuclear weapons is to carpet bomb the
entire country. Sanctions will not work and neither will military regime change
like in Iraq. Bomb them back to the stone-age and it will be a long time before
they can threaten anyone.
fossil_digger Report This Comment Date: September 30, 2009 03:46PM
carpet bombin' them "back" into the stone age is redundant, we will
only build them back up at our own expense. i've never understood that
reasoning. if you bomb the shit out of someone/thing, you want them done for a
long time.

I agree Fossil. We started that bullshit with Japan and never stopped. What
we need to do is when we invade a country and win we should rebuild it and take
it for ourselves. The phrase "spoils of war" does not mean spend your
money repairing it for them, it mean take everything for the winner.
fossil_digger Report This Comment Date: October 01, 2009 02:14PM
eh...you can't start taking everything or every county you attack. we will be
just like the asswipes that decided to try and take over that country. the
"shock and awe" bomb the snot out of your enemy theory is nice because
it keeps your soldiers out of harms way, but the only way too really beat a
nasty regime is to have boots on the ground. collateral damage only serves to
demonize the real people in need...the innocent civilians.
jgoins Report This Comment Date: October 02, 2009 11:23AM
Boots on the ground is the only way to win any conflict but that would have
collateral damage as well just not as much as bombing the shit out of
everything. If we had gone into Iraq and just left after removing Saddam's
regime would we not be viewed as asswipes for leaving the people of Iraq to
rebuild themselves? Would Iran have used it as an open door to move in and
expand their nation after we left? If we do nothing we are viewed as asswipes
by the middle east so we are damned if we do and damned if we don't. If Iran is
just left alone from now on how long before they and a missile system large
enough to carry a nuclear warhead to the US? Diplomacy does not work on nations
who just don't care about their standing in the world which is why it will not
work on Iran so what should we do about them and their striving for nuclear
weapons?
