I have to say, I have very mixed emotions about this. I do feel sorry for the people who've lost everything, but on the other hand, it's a pretty fucking stupid place to build a house.

Sadly I fear this is about what the really nice place my GF and I spent a great weekend at last February looks like about now. It was a nice lil B&B located on the Bolivar Peninsula in Crystal Beach, Tx. and from what I've seen, it looks like Crystal Beach was completely wiped out.

I know how it is to love the ocean, 'cause I do, and I know too how I've had thoughts of how wonderful it would be to live on or near the coast, but the reality of such an idea is that your dream home can be completely wiped away after such a storm.

While I agree with Frostys comments above about the coastline bein a lousy place to build, I know too how attractive such a life livin there seems and feel sorry for the losses these folks are now dealin with, as well as my own, since I really enjoy spendin weekends in just such places when I can get away to do so.

One of the most memorable weeks in my life was spent in a house right on the beach in SC. Gettin up in the mornin and headin out to stand on the beach with a nice hot cup of joe with the crisp salt air blowin in my face and the surf caressin my bare feet was somethin I could happily do every mornin of my life.

Like many of the other great joys in the world, livin on the coast is definitely a double edged sword deal. So, I live inland and head to the coast when I can. Right now, most of my favorite places along the Texas coast pretty much don't exist unless ya wanna pitch a tent on the beach amid the destruction there, and that's kinda sad ;(
