Another Microslush zealot spreading BS . Or ..... are ya just trying to comfort yourself for having been duped out of $200+ for just one more glitzy/buggy/whizbang flash in the pan OS ??

Near daily crashes/lockups in XP is why I finally hit the big delete key on Microslush, so get your shit straight.

there was something about evolution being vulnerable a while back, but all you had to do was upgrade
most people use thunderbird instead though and i don't use any of these email apps myself, rather use yahoo or gmail accs so i uninstall all of the evolution, thunderbird, (or outlook on winblows machine, actually don't have any internet capabillities on those lol)
i don't see how linux os = indefinite number of... blah blah blah though i've never had that happen on mine before (except when i was fucking with things i shouldn't have been doing :-] hehehehe) and i'm not even gonna talk about my experience last week when i tried booting xp to run win movie maker lol - that was ridiculous

If you were crashing XP daily you has system problems. While I am a big fan of Linux and run several distros here for development, I also dev on Windows and likewise run those for days on end without a hiccup. (although they do require a reboot every couple days)

For a truly stable network OS I prefer Netware... I have client 4 servers running well over 2 years now without a single restart.

I typically run 3 - 6 open tabs in Fire Fox, Thunderbird, while XMMS metes out the tunes from a 100gig cache of tunes to the Klipsches, might open up GXINE and play some videos along the way and be DLing vids or audio tracks as a pretty constant set of things my system is doing at once. Ubuntu handles all this with one eye open while it drowsily asks "Is that really all you want me to do ?"

When I had XP that was simply too much for it to handle at once it seems, since it would lock up nearly daily to the point where Ctl/Alt/Del wasn't even any help, requiring me to hard boot the bitch. Not to mention of course the CPU time the Microslush counterparts for the above mentioned programs/players/functions take compared to the the Linux versions.

Then there's the "security" patches to be DLed occasionally, requiring a reboot to set the new parameters into place. I really loved having to close and restart everything I was doin to do that shit !

Then when you add in the necessity of runnin all the anti-virus/spamware/spyware crap to keep the system clean, this makes for a helluva resource hog by comparison to Ubuntu on top of XPs already bloated background of programs it runs continuously that I didn't even NEED !

By comparison (with Ubuntu) I get a task bar icon showing me there's an update available, click on it, let it do it's thing & then at the very MOST I have to close and restart a program, but NEVER the computer itself to implement the changes.

I'm not an IT cat, though admittedly with Ubuntu, you don't need to be one to run it, although that's what the mainstream Microslush hardliner feels is required to run a Linux OS. When a novice like myself can run Ubuntu, anyone else can too ! Well, there are a few blonds I've known that might have trouble, but ....

Linux just keeps getting more useable for novices like myself, which just narrows the gap more and more between who NEEDS to run a Microsoft OS and who doesn't. The move towards open source just keeps gettin easier and easier, meaning more and more folks will be moving away from Windows products.

shit mr. k, i gots three swiftfox processes opened one six tabs, one three, and one five; i have a pron playing in totem; gaim; three pirated ebooks; azureus; streamtuner; and avidemux all in seperate workspaces...with ssh server running: 50% cpu load"prolly cus i'm converting an avi for dvd right now)
i couldn't dream of doing this kind of multi-tasking on win
my pops just bought a laptop today as well(forefully had to have vista on it or no sale) already bitching at me about it sucking trying to set up and asking me for a good distro to work with it... course he always hated win even in '95 when i though it was so cool not that blinking prompt i was used to telling me 'go fuck yoursel' command not found lol

I've mentioned this elsewhere but my take on Vista is that most of the sales of it will actually come from ones just like your Dads new laptop, with it already installed. Hell of a way to sell (force feed) a product

I did finally find somethin that's kickin my processor square in the nutz though. I'm convertin a buncha my .ogg files to .mp3s for my mp3 player & the mofo is pegged !!!

You got that right. I've been building and maintaining Netware servers for so many years that I've lost count. Started with Netware 2.1, now on 6.5. Good OS that. I even know a guy who uses it as a workstation OS at home. That said, I do have a Win2K3 server that hasn't hiccuped in a really long time, probably 3 years since we first fired it up and it's never gone down or needed a restart that I can recall. Also got a Win2K server that's been behaving nicely for even longer. Now THAT said, I've got an NT4 server that shits the bed on a monthly schedule.

People that crash Linux/GNU have no business within 100 feet of a computer. You either gotta be really stupid or do it on purpose. It's been stable for me for God only knows which version - I started out with BSD in 1990. I prefer Suse, Redhat and Fedora Core over the other distros I've played with. Suse's gotten really good since Novell bought it, BTW.
