I looked that up in a transliteration, word for word rather than judged meaning
for meaning: "etched mark". So yes, you could say that, but the
wider passage forbids the customs of the people the Jews butchered and replaced
in Palestine. That means using a cutting tool to make a mark in the flesh. I
don't know if they had tattoos. I don't have any and don't like them, I agree
with your sentiment but I'm not sure about the justification.
