That all depends on the context, though I will admit it is humorous and likely
the result of no understanding of the language as written, it does have a plus
side.
I personally would like to know that the Rolex I may have purchased for $10 from
a street vendor was indeed genuinely fake.
Otherwise it is likely stolen merchandise.

There is of course the interpretation that it is not actually a watch... but a
fake watch. It might look like it tells time, but it does not.

You could go so far as to say they would act as though they were staring at you
but actually be looking somewhere else?
