all it takes is 1 page.

Get so sick of people that say they will never spank their children. Then they end up on Jenny Jones with out of control kids, crying and getting laughed at

I sort of agree with mint. I don't smack my kids, but too many people think not smacking their kids means not disciplining their kids. Kids need boundaries, consequences for crossing those boundaries and praise for the things they do within those boundaries. The consequence does not have to be a sore ass or hand.

Had a conversation with one of my sons about this subject the other day. His girlfriend has two beautiful little girls who he really loves and can't bring himself to discipline so they're walking all over him. The girlfriend even wants him to be more stern and even occasionally give the kids a swat on the butt when the situation warrants. He asked my advice. So I asked him,"Haven't I always been pretty forceful with discipline and whacked your ass when it needed it?"
He said, "Yes."
"Do you hate me now or are you a violent person?" I then asked.
"No," he said.
"Well there ya go, son."

We've just had a law passed here (NZ) that makes you a criminal if you smack your kids. Officially it is classed as assault. While it makes no difference to me personally, because, as already stated, I don't smack my kids, I am yet to be convinced that it will have a positive impact on the level of physical abuse againsts kids. The arguement behind it when it was passed into law was that abuse would occur due to discipline being taken too far and the law would make a parent stop before smacking their kid. The trouble is that it assumes the abuser is a rational thinker and can see where his/her actions are leading.
