Picture captured from film footage taken 1916 outside Ypres. He is observing the fall of bullets from the Vickers Machine Guns used to supress the Germans as the rest of the battallion (Gordon Highlanders) advance.

Batallion pics are nice too... trench footage from WW1 practically unknown. I stumbled on this quite by chance.

I had a look at the picture. It looks like one of the South Counties Batallions of the Home Guard. I base this on the cap badge of the officer. Also the ORs seem a bit on the old side. This would indicate Home Guard or a fixed AA gun unit or something similar.

There are army sites where you can search, using the name of your uncle. If there are any pieces of kit with his army number on, that is also helpful.
