As a contractor if i don't work, I don't get paid.. but any perm role I've had typically included around 10 days free sick leave per year and don't typically require a medical cert unless you're off for a week or more.
Also sick leave often acrues in jobs here, so if you don't use your 10 days this year you have 20 next etc in case of serious illness.
It really is a waste of time requiring a doctor to say you're sick.
