Those are palmettos and they grow wild all over the place here. When an area burns they're one of the first things to start growing again, you can't kill 'em. And the saw palmetto that guys take for the prostate - that's them; it's not unusual to see people parked along the roadside and out collecting the saw palmetto nuts that they then sell for processing into the supplement.
