Matheny is an incredible guitar player, but he reminds me a bit of Yngwie Malmsteen.....not my taste or style. we were about 15 feet away though, and could see every note (without a big screen), something i haven't done in 20 years. i highly recommend The House of Blues for a venue if there's one in your area. it's tiny and probably only holds 500 people at the most. there was also 3 other clubs in the building with live music going (blues in 2 and country in the other). do not go to drink though....$11 22 oz beers etc....
i can find a video of one of the guitars he was playing with a built in...harp? but the sound was incredible.
