Superlative uncut sheet of four banknotes, “The Bank of the Valley in Virginia,” Winchester, three $1 and one $2. 8-1/4 x 14. Three edges deckled. Richly detailed, each note with cameo of Miss Columbia, Centurion with griffon atop helmet, two allegorical females, fine scroll “Virginia,” Engraved by Underwood, Bald, Spencer & Hufty, Philadelphia. C. 1840s. Only three other appearances of this item have been found in the last 25 years.
