In the U.S. there are about as many privately owned guns as there are privately owned cars & trucks. In 2007 there were 41000 deaths on the roads and 12000 homicides with guns. Ban cars.
There were also about 32000 suicides with firearms that year. Would banning guns reduce the suicide rate? Yeah, right.
