Maybe they are just programmed to swim against the flow, and don't understand what a flood is.
Determined fish those salmon.
I noticed bears don't waste time eating the flesh because they are only interested in the fatty parts. And with so many to choose from at spawning time why not? You could get a good feed picking up what the bears leave behind, is that legal? Or aren't bears that common that far south?
