I've never tried dog or cat, and personally probably wouldn't want to given I have had both as pets before, but I know logically one animal's meat is of equal value to another's.
My own three rules when it comes to what animals to eat:
1 It was killed humanely
2 It is not endangered
3 The meat is not gathered in a wasteful way - eg killing a shark just to take it's fin
