I'm from the printing trade, and a big file is several gig and a "nice" pic is 500Mb.
Say your making just one page in a magazine and it has 4 pics. Even today, it takes 7 seconds for these files to open.
Once the page is made and everything is scaled down it's much more workable.
But working with raw files was NOT an option on anything but a Mac 10 years ago.
