Ten years ago a G3 could be fitted with 8Gig of RAM.
PC simply could not run software with large graphic based files because it had insufficient RAM and the CPU spent most of it's time doing Bill's bidding instead of running your program. Even a UNIX server could not be diddled to work like a Mac.
These days it doesn't really matter what you use at home or work.
Also 10 years ago, webservers were 99% UNIX boxes. Now they might represent less than 50%, pulse should know some figures.
