I think it was a knopix boot cd we used for resetting admin pwd in WinNT/2K/XP. Hell, it could have been anyix. It was not the distro of linux that mattered but the program to access and rewrite that part of the registry in Win.
You can clean infections from a Windows box using bartPE or really any OS that will let you do a r/w mount of the drives and execute a/v program.
