Several years ago i had a Sony Ericsson P900.. fell out of my pocket when I got into the car, it was raining and I drove over it. Picked it up about 20 mins later when I'd realised it was missing, it rang and you could still use the speed dial function of the buttons but that was it.
Likewise, bought a new phone the next day. The guy at Vodafone was suitably impressed at just how damaged it was.
Edit: Interestingly though, it looked in worse condition than this iPhone. But that said I also felt as I took off the rear wheels slipped a bit. I assumed it was because of some water and I'd taken off a touch fast, but I'm pretty sure I spun the wheels on it
