Sorry to say SO, but throwin $$ out to solve a problem that really only requires a bit of personal effort and ingenuity dudn sound like a reasonable course of action.

My preference will always be to stay with the real deal open source Linux OS that runs on pretty much any hardware over Macs commercially modded Linux kernel that runs on their high dollar short list of hardware.

Of course many of the Mac fan boys don't know Mac is using a custom Linux kernel for their OS, something which actually allows Mac to save $$ overall, though these savings in OS costs are NOT shared with their Mac consumer base by lowering the costs of their products

Different strokes for different folks but any of my Linux machines will run head to head beside a similarly specced Mac machine for at a bare minimum of 1/3 less the cost overall.

All in all Macs vs a Linux Ubuntu machine remind me a lot of the difference between just gettin a good cup o joe and gettin a cup at Starbucks. Both are still good coffee, one just hangs a fancy name on theirs and charges more for it
