Monday night a tornado passed within a couple of miles of our mobile home. While my grown kids ran for storm cellars around their homes we just sat in our living room watching the weather coverage on TV and listening to our scanner. We knew it would be a near miss before it came through. We have a storm cellar at the house nearby we could have used but we never used it. No sense running for cover when you can track it's movements from it's creation by listening to the storm chasers on the scanner. All storm chaser in our area use ham radio to report to the weather bureau and we have them programmed into our scanner.
