Mayans, Nostradamus and other sources of "mysterious knowledge" are about as accurate as astrology, ouija boards, tarot cards, palm readers, tea leaf readers, and phrenologists. In other words, it's a bunch of crap.

Don't any of today's "Mayan Prophecy" alarmists remember back to when everyone thought the world would end on Dec. 31, 1999?

Guess what? People also thought the world was going to end on Dec. 31, 1899 and Dec. 31, 1799.

The world will indeed end some day, but it won't be on our schedule or have anything to do with some arbitrary date we mark on our calendars. That's not how the cosmos works.

Dec. 21, 2012 will come and go without incident, except for some fools who will probably kill themselves. After that, feeble-minded people will begin proposing the next date for "the big end."
