They were sold in the US by Mercury, but they were never badged as a Mercury. Matter of fact, they weren't even badged as Fords either. The only badging I ever found was a tag on the kick panels that said "Body By Ford".

The US models (built in Germany) had Capri across the nose and tail, while the German and English versions said Ford instead. Also, the ones imported to Canada were from England and not Germany, and were also badged as Fords.

These cars were fairly popular and Ford europe got the $$ instead of Ford/Mercury in the US and with Ford feelin the pinch in the Mustang market from the sales, they simply stopped importin 'em. They were built on onto the early 80s but I think 76 or 77 was the last year we got here drinking smiley
