Just read this morning that this truly exceptional educator passed away last week. As the subject of a favorite movie in my collection "Stand And Deliver" Escalante proved himself a man of vision mated with a commitment to the betterment of the human race, a path he chose in total opposition to the hunt for the almighty dollar as his talents could have brought him far more financial gain in private sector employment, which he actually abandoned to become an educator.

If we had more such people educating our young minds we as a society would be far better for it. Cancer managed to end his life but his dreams live on in the minds and lives of the many students he helped to live more challenging and fulfilling lives
