I'm definitely a conservative, just not anything close to mainstream. Not too many atheist, former hippie, pro-choice, dope smoker types to found in the ranks of the conservatives.
The above statement reminds me of a comment Ronald Reagan made to Sam Donaldson once though. Sam asked him something along the lines if he'd ever made a mistake and Reagan said "Yes, as a matter of fact I was a Democrat for many years"
