I had Konis on my '70 Jaguar XKE.

To adjust the damping, I recall that you would fully compress the shock shaft until it bottoms out in the shock body, then rotate the shock shaft clockwise to increase the rebound damping. (This slows down the ability of the shock to extend)

Compression damping (the force require to compress the shock) is not affected.
