I have a cuppla pics of the pistons and rods prior to the parts being mated but they come out as thumbnails so they weren't really postable here. The rods actually attach to the pistons with some rather large bolts but there are also a huge number of oiler tubes that come through the bottom of the piston and supply oil to the piston domes and bores to keep it all lubricated and cooled.

Another interesting cuppla ideas here are that the pistons have 5 ring lands where most 2 stroke engines use 2 rings (I think) and a typical 4 stroke engine will have 3 rings and an oil scraper ring. These also appear to be "gas ported" pistons with huge gas ports located around the whole perimeter of the pistons. Gas porting has been around for years and falls in and out of favor with engine designers. It's a technology used to take compression from the top side of the piston and port it to the back side of the rings to force the rings outward to enhance ring to bore mating and keep the rings in better contact with the bores, thereby increasing the mating and sealing efficiency of the rings to the bores.
