Oh, it was the 22nd January 2007 and it's known as the Comet McNaught.
I went down to the pier at Elwood Beach but it turns out it's a bit of a hang-out for people of Pulse's persuasion, so I didn't stay too long.
The light and colours were so vivid it seemed unreal. By far the best celestial display I have ever seen.
