Seen lots of 'em that this was exactly the case. Never seen, nor likely ever will see a woman doin my job though. Too many expensive tools and waaaay too much mechanical knowledge required and they're never gonna acquire either of 'em on their own.
Maybe, just maybe, if a company were to send 'em to school for a few years and then provide all the tools required they might, but even then I highly doubt it, and .... NO ONE'S gonna provide that much of an investment in someone on a maybe, most especially since no such company even exists
