A common recent practice for companies with automated phone answering systems (which most all do now!) is to have the recording tell the caller to press "1" for instructions in English or press "2" for instructions in Spanish.

This pisses a lot of us off since English is still (for the moment) the most common tongue spoken here and it seems uncalled for that we should have to make any language selection at all!

Some companies have actually paid attention to the English speaking customers displeasure about this and have now implemented systems where English is the default languge used by the system and then have a recording that says press "1" for instructions in Spanish.

While this all seems well and good, for folks like myself, any need for a language other than English seems totally like a BS move, most especially when in this case it is typically to make it easier for members of the Mescan community who live here but refuse to learn the fuckin language, making it an appeasement move to a segment of our society that thumbs their noses at the rest of us angry smiley
