For one, while it is cool and I use the plugin myself all the time, I would suspect the load it puts on a server is extreme. The plus servers do all they can to keep up with the page by page demand right now. But if every user was sending repeated 100 image requests at the server with the flick of a wrist all day I suspect it would bring the system to it's knees.
Most of the sites that support it now are all using huge server farms with distributed processing. It is definitely the way of the future, but it's also pushing the edge of the technology at the moment beyond most average sites can handle.
Just my thoughts anyhow.
