This is all typical for people in our country. No matter how many agree with a war in it's beginning, after it has gone on for a while most Americans will waffle on it. I wasn't around during WWII but I imagine it was much the same after it went over a couple of years. People tend to forget they were in favor of it in the beginning and eventually just want it to end regardless of the reprocussions. Because of this the Generals and all upper level leaders feel it and start protecting their own asses at the expense of everyone else. The average American is too weak to stick out a long protracted war but the terrorists aren't. They count on the fact that we will not stay in a conflict for very long and this is how they can defeat us because they have patience and we don't.
