When one has a question about the correct spelling of a word, which would be the better resource to consult: a search engine or a DICTIONARY?

Example: The word tongue is frequently misspelled as "tounge." Google returns about 1,680,000 pages containing that misspelling. That doesn't mean one may spell it either way; it just means there are 1,680,000 pages written by illiterate morons.
