The Mythbusters TV show recently trashed one of these by cutting a huge hole in the roof and tearing out the interior in order to see if they could build a working "passenger ejector seat" similar to the one used in the James Bond movie, "Goldfinger."
The pneumatic ejector seat worked like a charm, easily ejecting a 200-pound crash test dummy. Myth plausible.
