During stage performances of "Y.M.C.A." as they would sing the letters y m c a , they would form the letters with their bodies in a manner similar to that of the fellows in the photo (with the help of the crucified Jesus Christ). Christ was not one of the costumes worn by any of the Village People though many thought they should have been crucified.
