The ultimate goal of terrorism is to change society in an incremental or revolutionary way.
Since 9/11, Americans have lost many of their Consitutional freedoms, and the U.S. government has spent billions of dollars. Tight security measures interfere with the way people travel. The economy is beginning a downward spiral. We are losing soldiers every day to insurgents in Iraq (more than 2700 so far, with many more maimed). We are in an intractible war with no way to "win" (as the presidnet defines "winning"
and no plan to get out of this quagmire. World attention is focused on the Middle East, and billions of dollars are puring into the region.
In essence, Osama Bin Laden has achieved what he wanted.
