The land known as Israel was stolen from Palestine by the UN. In 1947 the UN was controlled by the US. Without US backing nothing happened.
The palestinians did not sell or give the land away. It was stolen.

This says the UN decided to divide lands that belonged to others and give it away to people who did not own it.
