RESCUERS have moved to a slightly faster blasting method as they battle to free two trapped Tasmanian miners.

Todd Russell, 34, and Brant Webb, 37, have been underground for 13 nights since a rockfall in the Beaconsfield Gold Mine, near Launceston, triggered by a minor quake trapped them in a cramped cage.
Rescuers stopped drilling 1.6 metres short of the men at the weekend - almost directly underneath where the two are trapped - and have since been blasting the remaining rock using low impact PCF explosives.
