SFA, I don't know how far up it was, but the sound barrier breach occured between :39 and :46 seconds after liftoff (the math should be pretty easy to do); the trip to orbit is 8 min. Seperation occurs about 2:40 into the flight. 4:30 minutes into the lauch Atlantis was travelling at 5300 mph.
