You don't look at the porn site that often, do you?
There is no advertising there. There's no advertising here. And at the moment we can't accept donations, again. Therefore, there is ZERO income from either site, so both sites currently contribute 100% to running costs.
Right now, both sites are 100% financial burdon on myself and DK. And with the new server we've bought (which is ready to ship to its new home) it's sunk us a few thousand more into the red.
The donations we received over that 1 or 2 week period is the ONLY cash that's come in for around 3 years on these sites. The running costs in that time are well into 5 figures that we've spent, hence why we were asking for a hand to pay for it all. DK and I have both bought new houses, we've both got real lives going on.. when this was all started we were younger and the cash was spare. But now with the missus asking why in hell we're still funding it, and the interest rates on the mortgage going up what seems to be daily, the cash is quite simply better spent elsewhere.
Advertising isn't an option because any of the major players won't touch us (eg google ads or doubleclick), the porn ads are only suitable for the porn site, and even then it's almost impossible to find one that pays per click or (ideally) per impression. Sure, it's great if people sign up, we'd get maybe $40 per signup from some of them -- except the general rule of the visitors to a free porn site is that they're not going to go and pay for access to one. In the year we tried advertising on the porn site, we got effectively $0, hence why we don't run the ads anymore.
I'll figure out a way to accept donations again, but even that I'm not sure will contribute heavily to the running costs. We're not looking for 100% coverage, just a hand with them. We're not trying to profit, that's not what these sites were about.
