Great place to party, listen to some wicked local and even internationally recognized musicians in quaint little venues, knock back a few of the myriad of the local specialty brewskies or take in some of the awesome arts and crafts displays that abound there, and a trip to the bridge shown in the pic at dusk to see the million plus bats that call it home make their nightly single file exodus into the evening sky is one of the trippiest sights imaginable.

Unfortunately, as the seat of state government in one of the reddest of states, it's also one of the staunchest strongholds of liberalism, filled with tree huggers, environazis, feminazis and all manner of big government lobbyists, apologists and proponents :>/

Mrkim, my image, didn't remember where you from, was throwing out a hook. Was just out there about a month or two ago, I have to say, I didn't even know it was a college town UU, was there for about a month, but didn't do much, wasn't a vacation time at all, family emergency having to do with yearly music festival, don't remember the name of that either, anyway, I liked it in general, we could actually drive through and get something to eat downtown at 9 and 10:00 at night.... oh yeah and did get hooked on Torchys.... we don't have a place like that in STL.

It's like this everywhere I guess but, there were beggars at lots of stoplights, especially over along the highway.

It was decent, like I said, didn't get to really, "do" anything..... oh yeah and flew into San Antonio.... (San Antonio... San Antonio... suck my bonio... thank you) and drove into Austin from there.

Anything I missed out on that I should have done?

Something was really weird for me, I was down the block from the Capitol building and was walking around it and said, whatever, and went in, walked in, ran right into security and they say, empty pockets, so I start emptying and go ohhh, I didn't even think about it, pulled out pocket knife... 3" blade (folding) and held it up and she said, that's fine, go ahead...... it took me a minute after that to adjust... I was waiting for them to shoot me as I walked away.... LOL.

Also, lots of cranes, and I'm talking about just downtown.

Don't get me wrong, Austin's a cool place and has much to see and do. Cruisin the digs in and around 6th Street downtown is an entertaining adventure, kinda like the Deep Ellum area in Dallas, where all manner of music, bars, coffee houses, video bars and all types of bizarre and eclectic activities can be partaken of. One of the coolest things to me is that no matter how you dress, you'll fit right in :>P

If ya missed seein the bats nightly at-dusk exodus from under the bridge, that really is a trippy deal as they fly out in a single file line that eventually will stretch out as far as the eye can see!

In the warmer months one of the more adventurous pursuits is to check out Hippy Hollow, which is a secluded lake known for its free wheeling nudity and laissez-faire approach to partying preferences.

BTW, in a state where a serious effort is underway to allow public open carry of a side arm, yeah, we don't really get all that excited over a lil ol pocket knife ;>winking
smiley

LMFAO........

It's funny, the State Capitol you see on top is not the whole package, downright underground offices.
