The mother of a condemned US inmate, who told an execution team "it don't work" while they struggled for more than an hour to inject him with lethal drugs, sued the head of Ohio's prisons on Monday.

It took almost 90 minutes to carry out the execution of Joseph Clark in May last year. The lawsuit in the federal court says the execution amounted to cruel and unusual punishment.

In a separate lawsuit, 15 inmates are challenging the state's lethal injection process, arguing the procedure may cause prisoners to suffer during an execution.

Prison staff had problems finding a useable vein on Clark, and one vein they did use collapsed. The execution team also apparently tried to administer the lethal drugs through the original intravenous line by mistake, according to written accounts of the execution.

During the first injection attempt, the 57-year-old Clark finally pushed himself up and said: "It don't work."

During the second attempt at finding a vein, the convicted murderer asked: "Can you just give me something by mouth to end this?"

The problems led the state to change its lethal injection process.

But in May, an execution team again struggled to find veins in an inmate's arm. Christopher Newton died nearly two hours after the scheduled start of his execution

What a fuckin shame that anyone gives 2 shits about a death by legal injection seeming "cruel and unusual". I bet their victims were treated far worse, but the bleedin heart crew never seems to even consider that angle, only these poor, poor inmates and their quality of life as they slip off into deaths clutches almost painlessly.

Fuck 'em, bring back hangins, firing squads, the gas chamber and the electric chair. These methods work pretty damned quickly and are typically still more humane than the way their victims died.

And .... before any of you chooms start yakkin about how the death penalty is barbaric or that it dudn solve any of the real problem it's best you consider one thing. The folks on death row didn get there by being loving and kind individuals or for their wondrous additions to society as a whole.

Typically they are sociopaths who've committed heinous crimes against their fellow humans and managed to be apprehended, tried, found guilty and then sentenced by a jury of their peers for these actions.

Lastly, anyone who can't see this as an effective end to their madness is obviously overlooking one very important fact : after they're put to death they'll damned sure NEVER harm another person.

Seems pretty effective at solvin THEIR part of the problem to me thumbs

The method in which this guy died is still better than he deserved. Maybe we should hire some full blood Apaches to trim the skin off the murders for hours before they are dropped in a pool of alcohol. Even that would be better treatment than some of them gave their victims. Public executions like this would be a good deterent to many future murderers. We are getting too soft on crime in our politically correct society and it will bring about our downfall if we don't stop with the poitical correctness. An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth is the method to use. Cheaper than housing them in prisons for life.
