Try and imagine how loud it must have been when
Mt.Vesuvius blew its load. You'd think the sound pressure and concussion alone would make a person
blackout temporarily.

For anyone who hasn't seen it,check out PinkFloyd
"pompeii" where they play inside the ruins. The song
Echoes is awesome(both parts)

Like that crazy old coot at Mt.Saint Helens who refused to leave his cabin.Talk about going out with
a bang. When that sucker blew it shook the windows in
my parents' house 300 miles away.My mom and I thought a semi-truck was coming through the house.
90310 were you in Oregon at that time? Did you hear it?

Been here for thirty five years, Fossil. Watched that fuckin' mountain blow its entire top off from my back yard on a warm spring day, back in May of 1980. Sounded like the end of the world... Fine gray ash blanketed everything, and drifts were up to two feet deep in some areas, even 60+ miles away in Portland. Life was genuinely fucked up for more than six months, and driving was almost impossible because there was NO visibility. Place looked like the moon until the rains started washing things down.

That's not something you ever going to forget. I am sure I can't even begin to imagine what it would have been like

My StHelens photos were deleted. I'll see if I can find them again.

I sure didn't forget it, Messy. Imagine watching a whole mountaintop blowing 3,000+ feet off it's summit and a huge engulfing column of rock, ash, and gas shooting 20 miles straight up through the clouds. Before you can say "Holy living fuck!" an incredibly loud sound shockwave hits you, followed by the ground shaking and moving under your feet. Unbelievable.

BTW, that "old coot" you were referring to was a codgy old guy named Harry Truman. It's widely believed that he's buried in his cabin under several hundred feet of mountainside near what was known as Spirit Lake.
