The Iranian government is a joke but a dangerous joke just the same. My son just finished a 6 month deployment to the Al Dhafra airbase in Abu Dhabi which is just 130 miles as the crow flies across the Persion Gulf from Iran and 190 miles from the Strait of Hormuz which is too close for my comfort to those crazy bastards. He just left there today on his way back to the U.S. ....... where he'll have to deal with a different bunch of crazy bastards over here but I'll sleep better at night.

Thanks p_j. He hated the place but at least he was far away from where the real trouble has been. As I write this he is in Spain, hoping to do a bit of sightseeing during a long layover. He was supposed to go to Scotland but was diverted due to wind and fog. I think Spain will be much better than Scotland this time of year. From there he's going to California before finally getting back to Tacoma, WA.

Thanks, Kim, I'll tell him. Turns out he's not allowed to leave the base during his long layover today so he's having a visit with the Heinekins instead. He's not a happy camper'bout that.

Since he's been deployed he's developed a political conciousness and, like most U.S. military personnel, he's a big supporter of Ron Paul. It's kind of funny, the kid joined up 3 years ago with hopes of seeing the world and now wants to shut down foreign military installations.

Yep, my young Marine friend, like most of the rest of the uber-conservative military members also is a Ron Paul supporter.

It continues to amaze me how Ron Pauls political policies are denoted as "radical" in the media. If a return to Constitutional policies by a prez is a radical idea it's damned well one I too support smileys with beer

If the "let's completely overlook Ron Pauls support and achievements" campaign succeeds in keeping him from gettin the nomination I will vote in absolute protest for the nominee ... with a clothespin on my nose when I head to the poll in November (throwup)
