Australian Gun Law Update
Here's a thought to warm some of your hearts .
From: Ed Chenel, A police officer in Australia

Hi Yanks, I thought you all would like to see the now available data from Down Under.
It has now been one year (12 months) since gun owners in Australia were forced
by a new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by
our own government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million dollars.
The first year results are now available:
Australia-wide, homicides are up 6.2 percent;
Australia-wide, assaults are up 9.6 percent;
Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent);
In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent as compared with the last one year period when private ownership of a firearm was legal.
(NB: the law-abiding citizens did turn in their personal firearms, the criminal element did not and thus criminals in Australia still possess their guns.)
While data for the 25 years preceding the confiscation of privately owned guns showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months as criminals now are assured their victims will be unarmed.
There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the elderly, while the resident is at home.
Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was expended in 'successfully ridding Australian society of guns.'
This story of well intentioned government intervention in the rights of lawful individuals to own and possess firearms won't be seen in the mainstream US media or on the American evening news. Senator Obama who advocates a similar confiscation in the US will not be reporting any of this to you.
But, the Australian experience speaks for itself. Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws affect only the law-abiding citizens.

Don't think it can’t happen here – look at Canada , UK , Australia – this is the 1st step
If you are not an NRA member, you might want to reconsider, there is no better time to join, and write your representatives

For those of you that enjoy shooting at paper targets, or your interested in some of the Action shooting, or you like to go hunting and fishing and want to protect your self while your out in the enjoyment of the out doors or at home and want to protect your family, or you are a gun collector.... your going to want to take a look at this

Congressional Bill H.R.45
Here is the first bill introduced in the house that mandates licensing for all firearms owners...

[frwebgate.access.gpo.gov]

The actual bill is attached for your reading pleasure.
This is for real people, WAKE UP

You will have to carry a photo ID firearms license.

A training class is required to be licensed.

Disclosure of your storage method of your weapons is required for license.

A thumb print is required for license.

Every sale recorded by the federal government.

If you move, and don't tell the Attorney General within 60 days, you are a criminal.

If a firearm is stolen and you don't report it, you are a criminal.

There will be no grand fathered firearms. If you do not obtain a license and report every firearm you currently own, you are a criminal.

There will be a license fee and a fee for the "services" provided at purchase time.

Licenses must be renewed every 5 years, and much, much more

Go to the web site and read what and how the bill is written. Then get with your congressional members from you state and let them know what you think of this bill and how you feel it should be voted....
Then do the same every week until the bill is voted on....
