The comment was aimed more to the point he was an Aussie player and would hence be missed there specifically.

I meant play as in there's a serious tournament. If there's one here, it receives zero publicity.

I did consult with the bowler down the road though and he said things were lookin up. Claims his average is up to 182, so ....

Learned to play cricket when I was in high school...(in the USA)...albeit a scaled down indoor version of the game but the same rules etc...I thought it was kinda fun

That is sad news. The lad is about the same age as my two youngest boys. Condolences.
