Oh wow, haddn thought of, much less seen, any of these in years!

In high school our english class did a skit where we used blank pistols in a performance in front of the whole school and then afterwards played with 'em in between classes and during lunch for the rest of the day.

Today, our teacher would likely have been suspended and eventually lost her job for allowing the performance, the skits writers and participants would have all been suspended, counselors would have been called to the school to deal with the poor traumatized students and the school district probably sued for its insensitivity in having allowed such violent acts to be portrayed.

My, my how things have changed so drastically in a mere 40 yrs. (*facepalm*)

Then again, I graduated when schools were still run by the states, prior to our schools having been taken over by the illogical and inept federal Department of Education. Thanks for that over reaching, nanny state minded bureaucracy belongs to what was the biggest weak suck president we'd ever had .... until now handjob

Nowadays some schools won't even let the kids play chase, dodge ball or red rover. I am surprise sports haven't been removed from schools because of the danger of a child being hurt or because there is a loser and a winner. The wussifaction of America is in full speed, the can't wimpify those of us who are alredy grown so they are trying to raise a new generation of wimps to take over the country in the future.

In Australia, we blame you Americans for all that crap.
You have a large majority of litigious muthafuckas that sue anything that crosses their path.
Public liability is the issue here. Nobody is responsible for their own actions anymore.
Uuugh it make me sick.
As for the wussification...

Gotta agree with that. The litigation society that has come about particularly in the past 20 years has meant the entire world has got the idea that suing for anything and everything is a great way to make a buck.

"I was being a dickhead and hurt myself on your property, I want compensation!". Before you know it, nobody is allowed to do anything for fear of being held accountable for others' idiocy.

It really does make me sick.

This weekend at the fleamarket some lady laid her wallet down on her table and someone stole it, imagine that, and she was so upset when the cops came out and told her they can only take a report, there is nothing else they can do. It was her own fault because she set it down and turned away but she was pissed at everyone instead of herself. I have had a few things of mine stolen but I blamed myself for not watching closer, so I could beat the hell out of the person stealing it. Personal responsibility has disappeared in this country in the last few decades.

You cats down under think the litigious shit is bad, just wait till the nanny state crap arrives there in full bloom.

When I was a kid shoppin with my Mom, if I grabbed somethin in the store she'd smack me on the butt, ask me if that were mine and if not (which it obviously waddn) to keep my hands to myself and off the merchandise unless I was ready to buy something, then any other adult within sight would scowl at me as if I had suddenly grown a 2nd head.

Fast forward to today, 40+yrs later. Same scenario but now when anyone sees Mom pop a kid on the ass they immediately whip out their cell and dial 911. The cops come and arrest the Mom for child abuse, while the kid gets asked if they need a counselor before bein whisked away to Child Protective Services, which means Mom will go through nine kindsa shit to even get their own kid back and just know, she'd best get a lawyer (one of the judges best buddies is highly recommended BTW!) then it's on like Donkey Kong from there. Mom will problee be fined, see a probation officer once a month, while paying for that privilege, then hafta take "proper" parenting, anger management and god know what other type of BS classes (aka, MORE $$ for one of the judges friends who were smart enough to set up such a class) as a part of her probation .... for being a REAL parent (*facepalm*)

I am glad you guys didn't take that personally.
We need to generalise to make conversation and know that the parties involved won't get their panties in a bunch.
If I was trolling you, you'd know.
Anyhow, the times they are a changin' and I don't think it's for the best.
Here are some bits from that classic email chain you have all seen at some stage...

Do you remember when you were a kid?

According to today's regulators and bureaucrats, those of us who were kids in the 60's, 70's and early 80's probably shouldn't have survived, because our baby cots were covered with brightly coloured lead-based paint, which was promptly chewed and licked.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, or latches on doors or cabinets and it was fine to play with pans.

When we rode our bikes, we wore no helmets, just flip flops and fluorescent 'spokey dokeys' on our wheels.
As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or airbags - riding in the passenger seat was a treat.

We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle and it tasted the same.
We ate chips, bread and butter pudding and drank fizzy pop with sugarin it, but we were never overweight because we were always outside playing. We shared one drink with four friends, from one bottle or can and no one actually died from this.

We would leave home in the morning and could play all day, as long as we were back before it got dark. No one was able to reach us and no one minded. We did not have Playstations or X-Boxes, no video games at all. No 99 channels on TV, no videotape movies, no surround sound, no mobile phones, no personal computers, and no Internet chat rooms. We had friends, we went outside and found them.

We played elastics and street rounders, and sometimes that ball really hurt.

We fell out of trees, got cut and broke bones but there were no lawsuits.

We had full on fistfights but no prosecution followed from other parents.

We played knock-and-run and were actually afraid of the owners catching us.

We walked to friend's homes.

We also, believe it or not, WALKED to school; we didn't rely on mummy or daddy to drive us to school, which was just round the corner.

We made up games with sticks and tennis balls.

We rode bikes in packs of 7 and wore our coats by only the hood.

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke a law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law.

This generation has produced some of the best risk-takers and problem solvers and inventors, ever. The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it all.

And you're one of them. Congratulations!

Hey, here's a suggestion. I know many of us have mentioned needin a sarcasm font from time to time, so, how about if that's the idea, we use the italicized font above to denote that?

Just an idea, but, what do ya'll think? Oh wait, I know that's askin a lot spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

Anyone remember the good ole days when you would take a long car trip and us kids could lay on the package rack in the back seat and nap for everyone to see? I remember the days when we could ride our bicycles all over town in and out of traffic without a helmet or even shoes. Now kids can't even walk across the street without holding momma's hand.

Italics would work but not everybody would know how to use it.
