It's sort of like TV commercials - if it's something I think I want to see and I have the time I get up and go to the bathroom or something while it downloads. For this pic I went to the kitchen and got another cup of coffee. As for the link, it took six or seven minutes just for the home page to fully download so I gave it a pass.

hey quasi, I know from reading past posts of yours that your kind of 'just point and click and dont question how it works' kind of guy...I admit I may be wrong about that...but I was wondering if you've tried other browsers besides ?
firefox is faster and chrome is faster still, and again, I could be wrong about that too, but may be worth a try?
also, when I used to have a laptop and traveled for work and had slower internetz than home, I would open a half dozen or so tabs on different sites and look at one while the others loaded..

That's some good but goofy artwork. I like it and thanks for sharing it.

Generally speaking opening more sites will slow things down even more. It may give you something to do while you're waiting but like everything it's a trade off. Firefox crashes too often and is a PITA to get closed when it does, same as IE. I haven't tired Chrome yet but thinking about it more. I don't expect any browser to be a lot better than any other, they are all at the mercy of shitty code from websites.

I just checked my connection status and it's at 41.2kbps. At that speed it's like trying to breathe through a straw, only a small amount of air can get through and eventually you'll be out of breath. Doubt if other browsers will be much improvement at that speed and opening more tabs does just slow things down even more. As websites add an increasing amount of superfluous flashy bullshit it's getting difficult to do much online these days. Even sites that should basically be text and used to be pretty quick to load have added so much crap it often becomes frustrating. 613 is still fairly quick though the recent changes in appearance slowed things down a bit. My favorite line of bullshit was a year or so ago when flickr changed things and proudly proclaimed, "it's better, faster, more flikrer." not faster by a long shot, far slower it's been but I still follow some pools & individual's photostreams there as well as take the time to add to my own photostream fairly often. I also like facebook despite it's many detractors, but it too slowed down considerably with recent changes and I understand there are about to be some more drastic changes soon. I can hardly wait.

You hit the nail on the head Quasi. Even selecting basic HTML settings for things like web-based email when it bogs down on a DSL connection isn't much of an improvement, that is if the browser doesn't crash because of that shitty code. The pipe is only so big and everyone keeps jamming more and more crap into it.

I've had some degree of success using things like flashblock and adblocker but even so those addons have still got to process the shit it sees somehow and often slows the computer down loading a page as a result. What chaps my ass are the sites that use flash crap to the point that you can't even view the fucking home page at all if you're blocking flash. Another ass chapper are the sites that have a link for a text only version that never works.

In some cases when my connection speed is better than usual I have noticed things slow down even more, which I ASSume is because the site senses I have a faster connection so it shoves more turds into the chute.

I am reminded of the Simpsons episode when Homer sets up a web page with dancing Jesuses and a bunch of other useless crap. That's pretty much what I think a lot of web programmers have become, a bunch of clueless Homers.

It's like the old saying, you just can't put ten pounds of shit in a five pound bag. I'm tempted to think it's a conspiracy masterminded by Comcast and the like to force people to use their service but I'm pretty sure you're right, it's just a bunch of Homers out there that confuse new and improved with lot's of extra bullshit they think looks good.
