Looks like a double ended socket that is driven manually by the two prongs sticking out either side. Each end of the socket would be a different size.

Good guess GAK but it's wrong. I'll see who else pipes up and give a hint or two later if no one gets it but I'm sure someone will. It's not that tough.

Don't really have a clue what it is but ... it looks like there might be a square drive female socket on one end and since the other end is a bigger diameter I'd guess there might be a larger similar square drive on the other end, but that's the best I can offer totally lost

Dunno, but it looks like there's a female square drive socket on one end, so maybe a bigger one on the other end too? I have no idea WTF it is though totally lost

A little warmer. What is the specific use?

Hint #1:
Each of the 4 ends do have a different size socket.

Kim replied while I was composing that. More in a bit.

This is fun. We've got to do more of it.

That's a good eye Mr Kim. Yes it is a square driver you see there and there's one on each of the 4 ends, all different sizes.

Another hint is warranted. The picture is very nearly the actual size.

Damn, that IS a real good guess Kim but still wrong. Some tuning tools (like for autoharps and zither thingies) do have a square socket but that ain't what this is.

Another hint? Ok... think outside the mechanic's tool box.

Nope and that song sucks.

I'll give another hint which should be a dead give-away...

It would be handy for a home-owner, a gardener or a grounds-keeper to have.

Bingo! It is indeed a multi-sized water spigot handle. Everyone calls those hose water valve things by a different name but that is what the little bugger is. Yay Gak! You won nothing buddy. I'm so broke I can't afford to pay attention. smiling

Yes, specifically a 4-way water key. There are all sorts of tools called water keys that turn on and off various types of water valves from long t-handled with a wide forked kinda end for street shutoff valves to small things with one square socket for a hose bib. This one was just purchased a couple of days ago by and I'd never seen this kind before.
