I managed to get myself banned from a "conservative" blog site today, woohooo!!

One of the mods had started an all out attack thread on a candidate that was so full of holes it could have been used for a sieve. When myself and several others began to post data in opposition to the mods BS we were warned that "attacking" a mod or any member could lead to suspension.

When several of us made mention of posts having been deleted by opposing commentors, like myself and others, they closed and locked down the thread to shut down any further dissent.

I guess the final straw came when I went into another thread that was actually an identical bash on this same candidate that had been open for over 2 months and made mention of how the similar thread had been locked down after only 2 days because of dissenting views.

In a matter of minutes I received the notice I had been "suspended" from playin in their sandbox.

BTW, pulse and DK, never fear I did not send them the message you see here, I just did it for kicks to post here.

But .... my most sincere thanks go out to you cats for truly allowing one of what is now an ever dwindling number of places on the 'net where people can always unabashedly speak their mind with only a very few and certainly reasonable constraints on what is allowable.

If I wore a hat I'd take it off, just for you guys smileys with beer

Haha! Go boy go! I think you should've posted it anyway but I understand your reasons for restraint.

I hardly EVER agree with any political opinions here or anywhere else but I sure as hell have and will stand up for your rights to express yourself, even if I don't like it or don't agree with you.

There is no freedom of speech when you are posting on someone else's website, blog, forums, ect.

They own it and they have the right to control what it shown or not shown and who is allowed to post there.

They can censor whoever they want for whatever reason. If you don't like it pay for your own website and post whatever you want.

From what I have seen from him here, I am almost positive he totally deserved that ban and it was probably overdue.

That is your opinion and in MY opinion you are certainly free to express it and that is my point. As I said, I hardly EVER agree with any of the political opinions here. I do not think they should be censored though. I don't like arguing politics so I generally don't. That is my freedom of choice.

I think plus613 is about as close to a free expression site as can exist. In cases where I did not think so I have voiced my opinion, that is, when I've wanted to.

When the site started back in 2003 (and was a very different beast to what we have now), we always said we didn't want to moderate anything, at all. Unfortunately, it couldn't continue on that way. It became a porn site mostly, hence splitting it off. Aside from spam, I don't believe we've ever deleted or moderated a single image/forum comment. I guess a site like this will never be a critical or commercial success, but then again it was never meant to be. DK, revert and I never sat down and said "I know, we'll make a million dollars from a picture site".. (though the fact that Facebook started the same year isn't lost on me)

Hey ¤¥¤, no shit? Really? As if that's supposed to be some amazing revelation I suppose (*facepalm*)

However, let's get to the core of what's what here, shall we?

We talking about a politically based site calling themselves conservatives in nature and similarly touting themselves as a place conservatives can gather to share and disseminate information on elements of the conservative cause and how current events and policies effect society and governance.

Now we conservatives typically are ones who tout and push Constitutional issues and positions. With that in mind, what is the 1st amendment to the Constitution? Isn't it the one that empowers free speech .... why yes I think it is, matter of fact I'm 10000% sure that's its intent, and one conservatives tend to hold forth as one of the most important of our rights.

So Ok, now we have a conservative site who (when the agenda suits them) allows free speech, so long as it's not in opposition to their mods and does not threaten other posters. Next we have this site also deleting posts to disallow opposing views, in essence, practicing nothing short of outright censorship. However they never delete any posts totally in agreement with their positions and the chats there are usually nothing short of schmooze fests all in all.

So what we wind up with is a conservative political site claiming to support the very freedom of speech, so long as it's in agreement with the mods and then censoring others attempting to utilize the concepts of this supposed freedom to expound on political topics and then simply deleting the accounts of those who fail to fall in line with their BS.

Yeah, I'd kinda hafta say their support for anything actually resembling conservativism or free speech is far from how these ideas would reasonably work drinking smiley

Nah pulse, I thought about it and felt it would have been less than fair to drag this site into such a discussion in any way at all. Also my post would only have gone to one of their limp dick mods and never have made it onto anyone elses screen anyway. The post I did send them in response to my accounts suspension was way milder than this was while essentially bringing forth my thoughts on their lack of being anything they purported themselves to be and let it go at that.

When another dissenting poster had posted a warning from the mod (actually the threads author) warning of possible suspension of his account I posted I understood it was their sandbox and their rules and if they felt like HIS posts were attacks (which were actually mannerly, respectful, simple dissent with the author), that I wondered how mine would be viewed if not terroristic comparatively and that if they so chose to ban me to by all means get jiggy with it!

Kinda like my sister is quick to say of me "You'll never get to wear the 'Plays Well With Others' T-shirt". I really liked Blahs comment recently about his "give a shit bein busted" as it seems most fitting for myself most of time clown

Anyway ... totally shiftin gears here, so what happened to revert, what's the scoop? Inquiring minds wanna know smiling bouncing smiley

I don't think my Give-A-Shit has ever worked, and lately neither does my Can-Be-Fucked. As in, I can't be fucked dealing with most of the shit I have to.

Anyway, revert just trailed off really after a year, maybe two. Maybe it was around the time of the porn split, I can't really remember. I've known him since I was 5 or 6 (so like, a year now). He got married (I was best man), having kids, etc. I think progressively probably 99% (if not 100) of the code he wrote for the site has been replaced/redone. Not sure if there's anything left anymore, if there is there's not much.

Caddis was another guy, he and I started the plus613 IRC channel where all this spawned from but he never had anything to do with the site. DK isn't female, but is certainly a bitch. I just kick ass.

plus613 (the site) is approaching its 8th birthday now. The IRC channel is probably 15 years old, but pretty much dead these days. Fuck I feel old smiling
smiley When I think of the money and time that's been spent on these sites, I'm pretty sure we should've been multi-millionaires many times over.. Being 100% honest, this place wouldn't exist if it weren't for you guys, we'd have pulled the pin a long time ago.

As for politics.. One of the biggest problems with zealots of any agenda is the inability to recognise any opposing point of view. Even if that view is on the same "side". Different = bad = wrong.

As far as I'm concerned, fundamentalist anything is the cause of most of the problems in the world. People who simply can't look past their own bullshit fuck things up for everybody else. Grab a bong, smoke a spliff, chill the fuck out and things will be alright in the morning. That was always my opinion smiling

I'm sure Mrkim's comments on the site he was suspended from were opinionated and that he didn't hold back from expressing that opinion. Like Pulse said though, they would have been too zealous in their own opinion to recognise an opposing point of view. I also agree with Pulse about fundamentalism - it's the scourge of any organisation and/or belief structure.

Mrkim, like most people on this site, will respect the right for somebody to have a different opinion to his own (therefore he will recognise an opposing point of view). That doesn't mean he wont tell you if he thinks that opinion is wrong.

Personally I think you are better off without having to deal with the small-mindedness of the mods on that site, and I think I picked up from the tone of your posts Mrkim that you feel the same way.

I would also like to thank Pulse and DK for this site smileys with beer

It's easy for me to do a lil honest self inspection and see how most of my ideologies and methodologies came from my Mom.

She always taught us to never accept the status quo as the best way anything could be done, to never accept anything at face value, nor anyones opinion or position on anything as truth, always pointing to the idea that only after careful personal inspection of all sides of an issue could a reasonable determination be made in where truth did or did not lie. She was also careful to just as quickly point out that even in doing proper due diligence, one still had to always accept the possibility that the eventual considered conclusion could still be incorrect.

She was a masterful debater and taught us early on the value of takin the devils advocate position in debate as a method of exploring the other side of a personally held position. Debate was always welcomed by her, whereas argument was not. We were always told that debate should always be devoid of emotion and that no amount of personal attack was acceptable and, once either party crossed over these boundaries, the point was then ceded to the opposer.

This all tended to infuriate my Dad though as he often viewed our debates as argumentative and disrespectful towards my Mom and he NEVER welcomed debate on any opinion he held, though Mama herself never saw it as such and instead that she was teaching us to always push and probe any and all things in search of the ever elusive "truth".

I was similarly taught an unusual concept in regards to respect. We were told that all people were equal and that respect could never be based upon anyones position in life, wealth, or lack of it, whatever level of education they'd achieved, or any other such factors, and instead was an elusive quality based mostly in how one treated others. Mama was fond of sayin "No one can ever demand respect. People can only command respect through their actions and deeds.".

Now that lil gem has problee tended to have caused me lots of grief over the years as what this represented to me was a concept that we were empowered to go toe to toe with anyone, no matter what their position since we all were equals and each one put their pants on one leg at a time each mornin, which tends to not always be the most productive position to work from when dealing with those in "perceived" positions of power.

School principals, cops, judges, etc. who tend to hold up their positions of authority as if they are shields against any type of reproach by those of us they perceive themselves to have the right to lord over tend to sometimes enjoy flexing their positionary muscle when you question them, so in these cases respect for the idea that "shutting the fuck up" is sometimes the best course of action, which I tend to forget .... A LOT, a really, really lot (taunt)

When it came to the freedom of expression and respect for others rights to it, as well as our own boundaries she was always quick to say "I'll defend your right to any opinion you choose to hold and will defend to my last breath your right to that opinion whether I am in agreement with it or not!". I at least "like" to think I get this one right, most of the time. Always knowing people in general hold differing opinions on things it seems important to grasp that everyone has a right to their view of things, no matter how one feels personally relevant to their position.

My Mom really was a wise and wonderful lady. I really miss her disappointed smiley

So, enough of that heaviocity BS, let's get onto some fun stuff like: What leads to DKs fascination with goats? Will pulses and Blahs give-a-shit meters ever make it back from the shop?
