BTW, let me be the 1st to extend a similar invitation, to which I'll go one better by actually givin out my Skype addy, which just like all the other ways I move around on the 'net is just my name, no BS, no hiding behind some cutesy moniker : mrkimsteele

I figure most people just don't use Skype, and a lot more problee don't understand enough about it to figure out how cheeeep it is. I dunno how much cheaper you can get than free for computer to computer calls, but ... Even a non-techie can set up service for computer to computer callin in about 5 minutes.

Sorry though quasi, and all the other dial up folks, this only works with high speed internet.

I've been lookin at Ekigas stuff regarding a sip phone account and it seems like a better deal than Skype for calling land lines and cell numbers. Their service has all the same functionality for use as a VOIP phone service you use in conjunction with a VOIP modem (already have one, but a new one is like $20) and any normal home/office corded or cordless phone. US & Canada for .017 a minute's pretty friggin cheap for phone service and it doesn't come with the usual laundry list of taxes and fees tacked on that come with regular land-line/cell phone service either.

For $16.00 US I can set up service, and $10.00 of that is credited as talk-time. By comparison I was usin a VOIP provider and payin $25 a month for the same service for an unlimited line + I paid about $30 to set up the service. With as little as I use a phone these days I think I'd come out way ahead at .017 a minute comparatively

I installed skype once. I even used it once. That was probably 3 or 4 years ago

The main issue being that if I want to talk to somebody it's just easier on the phone and I don't pay for calls anyway. I can't stand the thought of video chat stuff, all my laptops have little video cameras in them, none have ever been used.. mostly because when I'm talking to people I'm laughing at them, rolling my eyes or generally making "i'm going to kill you" actions, which would be no good on a work call

Maybe Skype's different today, dunno, but it is an easy (and free, my fave!) way to communicate with the 'puters we're all obviously already usin. No headset, earbud, jawbone or phone jammed in my ear is what I like best I think, but ... with a cheapie computer mic that just sits on the desk and the audio comin through my 'puter speakers it's also much clearer than a phone call, makin it almost like the person on the other end is in the room with ya.

I don't cam either, though I've thought about pickin one up. I would hafta reconsider my warm weather propensity to go commando-maximus while I'm in the house before accepting calls if the cam were on though
